May 27th, 2010 - Day 364

Didn't win anything or get any mention at the county fair. Saw some pictures that I felt didn't deserve awards over mine, but what are you going to do. I didn't have what they were looking for. This makes me feel better. :-)

I can't even begin to say how disappointed I was in the judging. Your pictures, obviously, I feel are the best because I'm your mom. But, there were also some other great photographs that didn't even receive any recognition. There were some that did that should never have received the recognition. I don't get it but it doesn't really matter. What matters is that you have grown in your skills and you have a huge, huge, fan base. The County Fair was obviously not the place for you to showcase your work. Keep it up my darling. You are amazing.

I know what made you more upset/disappointed than you thought you would be, and I'm so sorry it had to happen that way. I honestly think, when you go to pick up your photographs, you should ask what kind of background/qualifications in photography, if any, the judges have. Not out of poor sportsmanship, but out of genuine curiosity. If they are just little old ladies who chose winners based on cuteness, then you really can't put too much weight on their decisions. I know it probably doesn't help right now, but in time it will: you know how much your skills grown through this project, and that alone is priceless. You have a great eye and tons of people who enjoy your work and look forward every day to seeing the world through your eyes. I love you and am so very proud of your photography skills. Please don't let this setback put a bad taste in your mouth for photography - I (and SO many others) want for you to continue.

You can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time but you just don't know what people are looking for so how can you please them?
I think you are a superb photographer and your work just gets better and better. Hugs, Nani

That photo says it all. I'm sorry you didn't win anything for your photos. Your friends enjoyed them, and if we were judges we would give you first prize.

Dude, your pictures are in a whole different league. And us admireres of your work will probably give you the gold ribbon time and time again.

Love this photo. I'm sorry your pics didn't win anything, but keep submitting them. You will get rejected many times before you get one accepted. Each time you'll learn a new way to present it or a venue that will like what you do. That's pretty much how it works in the arts. It's all so subjective.
