A Brand New World

My photography had a new door opened to me today as I received my very first macro lens in the mail. I ordered it using Christmas money I received and I couldn't be more excited as I have been wanting a lens like this for a while. It really does give me that much more to be able to photograph!

But first and foremost, I have my photograph from last night, taken before I actually got my macro lens. Jess went to bed fairly early last night and as I had not taken a picture of the day yet and I wanted to go watch tv in bed with her, I took to the camera to the bedroom to find something to photograph. I had been thinking of shooting the towel hooks for a while, but always found something better to shoot or totally forgot they were there. Last night was my opportunity.

January 13th, 2010 - Day 230

That brings me to my macro lens. UPS dropped it off around 11:00 today, but work kept me busy until nearly 6:00 PM and I didn't really get to play with the camera anywhere near as much I would have liked. The colored pencils below were near my work desk and I took a quick photo of them. I think it came out fairly well, but I know a tripod would have made the picture a little crisper. I blame work for making me take a quick photo.

January 14th, 2010 - Day 231

I took a few more photos of other random things around the house and am pretty excited of the possibilities. It's a whole new ball game!

I'd been anticipating the arrival of your macro lens since you mentioned you'd ordered one. Though my knowledge of photography is pretty pedestrian I knew of them and how they can expand your photographic abilities. I'm looking forward to seeing what sorts of shots you manage to get with it.

The colored pencils shot is great: Nicely focused, whimsical, and very colorful. I can't wait to see what you're capable of when you've got your camera on a tripod.

I'm glad you finally got the chance to take that photo of the towel hooks, because I love the black and white style. Very nice! And can't wait to see photos taken from your new lens!

That colored pencil pic should be blown up, framed and hung on your wall. It's that cool.

You have been talking about the towel hooks for a while... I really like how they turned out. I often think about "art" appropriate for the bathroom, and I think a series of pictures like this one, maybe a closeup focus on a shower hook, or faucet or mirror frame, all in black and white would be awesome. I'd buy them to decorate (oh wait, I don't have to!)

You have been wanting a macro lens for a long time and I'm glad you were patient. I think you've learned a lot about photography in the time since you started your project and i think this knowledge will really make a difference now that you have it. I LOVE the pencils; so colorful and I dig the detail in the wood. Imagine that blown up and framed in a kid's playroom - AWESOME!

Unlike everyone else, I was able to see the results of your playing with your new lens and I am thrilled to see what the future holds! That is one cool lens!

WOW!!!! Awesome pic of the colored pencils. I can hardly wait to see what you can do with a steady hand and time.

I thought of the same thing that Jess did when I saw the towel hooks. That would be awesome framed and in a bathroom. Definitely the black and white makes the picture.
