Down and Out

Have three days to catch up on today because some recent developments kept me from posting my daily pictures. On Friday, Jessica had arthroscopic surgery on her right knee. She has been having problems with the knee for awhile and this was somewhat of an exploratory surgery to see if what the doctors believed about her knee trouble was true. While doing the surgery, they would also see if there was anything they could do to ease the pain. As it turns out, there wasn't. Jessica is bone on bone in one section of her knee with no cartilage where there should be some. We were hoping that maybe a knee cap was slightly ajar and they could move it back into place or perhaps there were some loose fragments they could remove. Unfortunately, it was just the missing cartilage and that has to be dealt with in steps. So, during surgery, they took some cartilage samples from the good areas and they will send those to a lab in Boston where they will grow her new cartilage. When that is done and when Jessica has built up enough vacation time for the 3-6 months she will have to be off, they will do surgery again and insert the new cartilage. But for now, she is going to be out 4 to 6 weeks with no pain relief from how she felt pre-surgery.

So, with that being said, I have been fairly busy with taking care of Jess. She is the nurse, but it has been me having to perform the nurse duties. I was able to take the pictures as usual, but posting has been a different issue. Friday, time escaped me and I didn't get a chance to take a picture until the end of the day. While getting ready for bed, I quick grabbed my camera and took a picture of my keys. I guess it seemed only fitting since the previous day I took a picture of a keyhole.

January 22, 2010 - Day 239

Saturday, my folks came by and my dad arranged a bouquet that they got for her. A flower bouquet became the perfect opportunity for the macro lens. Despite my utter hatred for daisies, I had to take a picture.

January 23, 2010 - Day 240

Today was spent pretty much on the couch all day. Some of her friends came over today to watch her around midday that way I could go watch a little football with my friends. When I returned, she was pretty much in the same position as when I left her, poor thing. In fact, she has looked like this the last three days, and I know her butt is starting to get tired!

The key picture is cool, I like how remarkably out of focus everything but the key (and its shadow) is. I also like that it is not a color photo; makes it more elegant somehow.

I don't know flower anatomy at all so this will not be technical - the bumps int he center of the daisy are amazingly detailed. That macro lens is awesome.

My butt IS getting tired, but my knee is even more uncomfortable, so I guess I have to pick staying on the butt... You're doing a good job taking care of me and I appreciate it. I like how, in the last picture, my one eye is peeking around the ice pack, kind of funny.

Without that macro lens I don't think I would ever be able to see a daisy that close. I like daisies but that close it's just weird. Your lens is amazing and the key in itself is also amazing. It was fitting to take a picture of it after the day before. Real quick thinking to take this picture.

Poor Jessica! I know how she feels when you aren't mobile. Keep up the good work my son and let me know if you need any help.

Best wishes to Jessica for a speedy recovery and hoping that time goes quickly as she builds up all that sick/vacay time she needs for a second procedure.

Great photos, MrManuel...but why this rabid daisy hatred? Did a daisy once touch you...in a...bad way?

I hope Jess heals quickly. I really like the daisy pic. It's cool to see it so closely.

Jessica: I'm so sorry, Jessica. I hope they can get the procedure moving quickly so that you can be pain free sooner rather than later!

Manuel: I love the image of the daisy!

The key following the lock is a pretty timely subject. As for the daisy, looking at the photo my first thought was, "What's in that basket? Looks like cereal or dog food." Then I read the blurb and realized that it was another amazing macro shot! Very cool.

Jess is super lucky to have such a good nurse. :)
