October 27, 2009 - Day 152

Another day, another set of scary pictures. Today I decided to focus on some of the horror icons of today. Not the "classic" Universal horror characters, but the ones people in my age group grew up on. Like yesterday, I had a real hard time deciding. So, the first one is considered my pic of the day and the rest are alternates (but many I like just as much!).

You should have given a clown alert for your mom, you bad boy! Now she may very well never look at your pictures again...

Today's picture is creepy and the lighting helps convey the spookiness. I KNEW never cleaning the fireplace vent thing would come in handy! :-) Excellent pictures; I am enjoying this as much as I thought I would!

Great subjects! Though I've loved the "classic" Universal monsters all my life, characters like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers are indeed our generation's movie monsters.

My thoughts on the picture of the day: I'm a lifelong (well, since 1984, anyway) fan of the A Nightmare on Elm Street series, and this photo really speaks to me. I love the shadows bathing the left side of Freddy's face and body, the blood-stained blades extending out of the darkness. I love the angle at which his head is cocked and the resultant wicked smile. Clearly he is closing in on his next victim. I love the bleak-looking and out-of-focus background. The whole of this image makes me feel like I'm the aforementioned soon-to-be victim, having stumbled into the boiler room in a dream. I can almost hear the sound of his blades screeching as he drags them along a length of pipe. Best of all, the shot is in widescreen, which really makes it seem like a frame from one of the movies. I'm strangely curious as to what the background is exactly. On the other hand I don't want to know, as I would hate to spoil the illusion.

My thoughts on the others: Wow! You really did take a bunch tonight! And these are just the ones that made the cut! You did a great job with Michael Myers standing on the porch. I especially like the way the columns repeat behind the figure; it lends the image some realism, as though he's standing on an actual porch and not a simple plastic diorama. The light gives it a warm, autumnal feel, and the jack-o-lanterns on the steps are an excellent touch. I especially like the low-angle shot, as the blurriness adds a certain surreal quality. The shots of young Michael in the clown costume are perfectly-framed, preserving the illusion. Had I not lent these items to you I might suspect that I was looking at a real child standing before a real house. The shots of Jason are terrific; like yesterday's zombie pictures you use your backyard and its strategic lighting to your advantage here. The shot of Jason standing beside his own gravestone is nothing short of awesome. The close-up shot of Freddy's face looks very much like a publicity shot of Robert Englund, and both photos of Billy the Puppet on his tricycle are incredibly eerie. I often find puppets creepy, moreso when they are the property of a deranged, puzzle-making genius.

Another great batch of photos. Kudos!

Uh - $*@$% alert indeed - see - I can't even type the word. I was enjoying until but then I had to go fast to the next ones.

Anyway = great pictures. I think I definitely like all of them. I can't even imagine picking a favorite. Each one is unique and clearly look real.

Great job (except for that whole ##### thing!

I guess it's a good thing, then, that I didn't include my Captain Spaulding (House of a Thousand Corpses) figure, since he's dressed up like a #####! :)
