One Proud Brother!

I have bragged about it a bunch the last couple of days on Facebook, but I need to blog about it too! This past weekend, my little sister ran and completed her very first marathon! I am so proud of her, especially because she only started training this past year. This isn't something she started planning for years ago or even 2 years ago. This was all done in the past year! I can't even fathom running 26.2 miles and yet, I am not inspired to run more. I had fun when I did my 5k in July and now seeing this makes me even more determined to do some kind of running. But back to her; I am SO proud of her and wanted to brag here too. I stole pictures off her Facebook page since I couldn't be there due to the wedding commitments.

Up at the buttcrack of dawn ready to run!

Her friend Jenni made them matching shirts!

Near the finish line

And they did it! Is that a Tiffany's box?

The shirt they get at the finish line...

Yup, all finishers of the race got a Tiffany's necklace. SCORE!!!

Yeah, I'm sorry you missed it because it really was something to see. We are all so proud of her! Seeing her finally near the end and crossing that finish line was an awesome thing to watch.

They were handed their Tiffany necklace by a fireman in a tuxedo. Pretty awesome but funny that she really didn't even care. It had been one of the motivations for her to finish and when she finally got there it could have been a gorilla giving her the necklace for all she cared.

20,000 plus women running this race. An amazing event but it doesn't inspire me to run. Exercise and get in shape - yes, but not the wear and tear of running that much.

If she does another one she wants to do one in Huntington Beach because they get a surfboard necklace. Let's see if she gets motivated after all the soreness wears off.

Congrats to your sister! I am always amazed at what people can accomplish, pushing their bodies and minds.
And how cool to have such a proud brother :-)

Wow! What an accomplishment! Way to go Cassie! And as my wife would attest, anytime you are given a piece of jewelry from Tiffany's for doing something, that's something worth doing!

Also, my word verification is "hablanto", which sounds like some ultra-obscure form of the verb "hablar". :)

I too am SOOOO proud of Cassie. Running 26.2 miles is INSANE and I cannot even fathom that distance and what it requires from one's body to accomplish that. Cassie is my freaking hero.

And Laura, Manuel's love for and support of his sister is one of the main reasons I fell in love with him. He is SO good to her and it is amazing to watch.

You are the best brother a girl could ever ask for. I feel so blessed to have a brother who supports me through everything and loves to express how proud of me he is!! Thank you for this awesome post!

The marathon was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life thus far. I'm very proud of Jenni and I because one day we just decided to run a marathon, started training, and now our mission is finally complete. The funny thing is is that at first we both said we would never run another full marathon because it is so hard, but as the soreness wears off we are determined to run another one and better our time. We might be just a tad bit crazy!

Thank you to everyone else for the congrats and the support as well. Especially my family! Again I feel very blessed to have so much support!

What an awesome post!
We say it over and over but the awe is still there. Cassie, you are a phenomenon in our family. Except for Henry, no one has ever been this atheletic and certainly no woman. The determination to do this, the work to get in shape for it, all of it is just so inspiring. Too bad I am too old and out of shape, I might just be tempted to do it. It would kill me so... :-) The necklace is really cool You deserve it and all the attention you are getting. I hope you do the Huntington Beach one. That surfboard necklace would be really cool to have.

Gloria, Henry was athletic but don't forget my son. Even though he didn't run as a sport, he played soccer his whole life. He is athletic as well even though he's not crazy to run 26.2 miles.

Wow kudos to your sister and her friend, I can't run for more than a minute and I'm done. I can see where all the good looks in the family went. lol
