As for day 195, today's photo shoot subject came about unexpectedly. A friend of ours brought by a Christmas gift this afternoon. Noticing over the weekend that we were really lacking in a tree topper for our Christmas tree, he brought by this great Yoda. As our ornaments are almost half Star Wars figures from Hallmark, he fits perfectly. I have included both my choice for picture of the day and the alternate. Both of these have their pluses and minuses. The one I end up choosing is my favorite because of how close it is and how the use of shadows over the face came out. However, because I am so close and so high on the tree, I had to do this handheld. Needless to say, it is not as clear as it could have been had I been able to use a tripod. The second picture is cool because you see more of Yoda, but it doesn't quite have the striking shadows that the first has. This WAS done on a tripod and is clearer, but this was as close as I could get. In the end, I like them both.

Metallica! You are absolutely correct - they put on a FANTASTIC show; they give 150%. The acoustics in Arco Arena suck, but what the hell, it's a rock concert - it's supposed to be loud as all get out, right?
The picture is a great way to commemorate our outing that evening. I like the angle you took - 2 tickets but the focus is on the near one, not the far one. I also like that it is in black and white.
Gary and his family did a FANTASTIC job in the gift they gave us. It is so funny - we were JUST saying how we needed a tree topper but something fun, not the traditional star or angel, and lo and behold, look what we got!
The picture is great. I love the shadow on the far side of Yoda's face, it makes him look so powerful and menacing (in a good Jedi way, not a bad Sith way.)
And for the record, I LOVE the title of today's post, incorporating the subject of the two pictures. Very clever, sweetie!
How fun!
I like the first Yoda better. For some reason, I find it more striking.
I love concerts! I have never seen Metallica, but I can imagine what a great show they put on.
I like all of your photos here...I agree with Churlita that the first on of Yoda is especially striking.
The title is fantastic!
I love the black and white and the angle you took the picture. Really cool.
I can definitely see why you had a hard time choosing. I, too, like the closer up picture but it is also nice to see more of Yoda. Great job with the shadows. The color is so crisp.
Good job!!!
I agree with Jess! Awesome show! Metallica is one of my all-time top five favorite bands, and I'm ashamed that it took me this long to see them live. Glad you both had a great time, as did I.
As for Yoda, I prefer the first shot. The angle on Yoda is indeed more striking, and your use of light and shadow is excellent. What a cool tree-topper!
I would totally pay to see those guys play. Glad to hear it was a good show.
