Today was not quite as hectic even though we were up much earlier. I think we finally got out of the hotel around 9ish and took the metro back into DC. The station is about 2 miles away, but the hotel has a complimentary shuttle. The guy we have had the first 2 days has been awesome. On the way home last night after picking us up from the station, he let us stop at 7/11 to pick up some treats. Nice guy, but we won't see him again until Thurssday now.
When we got to DC, we went straight to the Holcaust Memorial Museum since we couldn't stay long yesterday. Today, we were there over three hours. The place is simply amazing. It is not really a place you can call fun as reading exhibit after exhibit of the horrible things that were done during this dark time is really trying and emotional. But, the place is really amazing. You learn so much at this place; things you probably didn't want to know, but very imformative nonetheless. It is weird being in a meseum with a ton of people and yet, it is SO quiet. People are very respectful and you often just see people shaking their head in disbelief over and over. To be respectful, you aren't allowed to take pictures until the very end in the rememberance room. Here is a place to think about what you have seen, say a prayer, light a candle, etc. It is a really nice place, but I couldn't get many good pictures as they were doing some filming there. Nonetheless, what I did get....
After that, we headed over to Union Station. Like Grand Central in NYC, this was an old train station that has since been remodeled to include a mall type area to go along with the usual travel areas. It had some great architecture, but not too many shops that we would actually shop at. We were hungry so we ate at a restaurant called America. This place was pretty cool because it had food from many regions of the US: fish tacos, clam chowder, gumbo, ribs, cheesesteak, etc. I elected for the meatball sub while Jess had mac 'n cheese.
The meatballs were good, but I don't think they were in the same league as my mother in law Fran's or her mom, Grandma Josie's. Not by a longshot. What was funny about this restaurant is that is was called America, it had a wide variety of American cuisine, and it was run all by......Mexicans. Yup, Mexican waiters, Mexican busboys, and I am pretty damn sure there were Mexican cooks in the back. It made me laugh. Nothing more American than that I guess.
After that, I took some pictures of the architecture as well as some photos of ourselves:
After that, we were ready to call it a day. We have another early start tomorrow so we didn't want to stay out too late. We hopped back on the metro to make our way back to the hotel, but not before taking a couple of more shots...
See you tomorrow...

The Holocaust Museum must have been something very emotional. I'm glad to know that they don't allow pictures. It's nothing really to celebrate.
It's really extra special when you having someone nice like your shuttle driver. Hope you tipped him.
Nothing much here today either with the dogs. They really are such good dogs. We have to sit with Orko in order for him to eat. It's like he expects it! But, I'm glad to do it.
Talk with you tomorrow! Love you guys!
Today was nice and relaxed, though emotionally draining at the Holocaust Museuem. Its not something I would call "fun" but something necessary as it is a true sad event in our world. I am glad I saw it and got to pay tribute to everyone involved.
As a late snack, we went to the restaurant here in the hotel and split a roasted turkey sandwich. It was an actual turkey breast with applewood smoked bacon, carmelized onions, avacado, on a ciabatta roll. Delicious! The food thus far has really been fantastic!
Thanks for the updates on the dogs. We miss them a lot. Tell Cassie we saw a Burmese(?) Mountain Dog yesterday and it was beautiful.
Interesting. Take in as much as you can, it's so good to see what you are seeing by way of your pictures and narratives.
The museum sounds very nice even though it was built to rememeber people during a horrific time.. Glad you are having fun..
The meatball sub looks very yummy..
I'm certain the Holocaust Museum was emotional and draining. I hope all the people that visit learn something and nothing like that ever happens in our world again.
That train station looks familiar. I think I've seen it on Bones.
Looking forward to your next adventure.
Hugs
It sounds like an emotional but important experience. I can't wait to see where you guys go next.
The Holocaust Museum sounds like an amazing, important experience. I like the sign that says "Think about what you saw here".
Those architectural shots are beautiful. Thanks again for sharing.
A Bernese, really? Those dogs are beautiful! I'm jealous!
It looks like you guys are having a fun trip. The Holocaust Museum would be interesting to see and the Natural History Museum. The picture from The Holocaust Museum where it says "think about what you saw" is really powerful. I can't even begin to imagine what it was like to have to live through something like that. I look forward to the rest of the posts! Love you guys!
