He was the self proclaimed "King Of Pop".. And certainly lived an extraordinary and sometimes eccentric life.. Rest In Peace Michael.. There will be not another like you!
I loved him as a kid. Then again, I can't think of anyone who grew up in the 1980s who didn't. He was an icon, almost certainly my generation's Elvis. Though some might scoff at this, or come to Elvis' defense, the similarities are there, paramount amongst them the fact that both artists are referred to as "The King".
One of my fondest childhood memories was going to my aunt's house - the only one in the family who had MTV at the time - to watch the premiere of the Thriller video. If I wasn't a fan before - and for the record I most certainly was - the awesomeness that was Thriller sealed the deal. It is still one of the coolest music videos I've ever seen.
The saddest thing about him in my opinion was the fact that - in recent years - his career took a back seat to his bizarre personal life and the media's exploitation of same. I don't think I heard more than three or four songs he released since 1991's Dangerous, and apparently he released a couple albums.
And the fact that he was only fifty? Surprising, to say the least.
Shocked and devastated. I remember when your mom and dad had the only vcr in the family and we watched the MTV awards where Michael danced and performed Billie Jean. The dancing, the moonwalk, made us just scream with delight. We watched it over and over and each time was like the first. I grieve.

What a troubled life he led, and performed some of the best music in the 80s.
I was never much of a fan, but it did come as a shock to me.

I am so devasted and saddened by his passing. I know he went through so much towards the end as everyone knows - may he finally find peace.
I do also have to say RIP to our other icon Farah Fawcett. I am deeply saddened as well.
Hard to believe we could lose two icons in one day.

I hope he can get the peace in death that he didn't have during his live.
What Alien said.
