Trivia Thursday #1

So everyone knows the nursery rhyme of Little Miss Muffett and how she got herself in a little predicament with a spider while eating her curds. But did you know that the nursery rhyme is actually based on truth and Little Miss Muffett was actually a real person? Without researching, how do you think this came about, i.e. , how did Little Miss Muffett wind up in this situation???

Maybe it's as simple as the nursery rhyme: A lady was sitting down for something to eat and a spider approached her and scared her? Did it bite her? Was she eating outside, like a picnic?

I'm betting there must be more to it than what we read in the nursery rhyme. I can't wait to hear "the rest of the story".

I'll bet she was a naughtly little girl sitting in a corner and then the spider came. Knowing Mother Goose rhymes it's something gruesome! Most of them really are.

I think it's olden days propaganda touting the use of exterminators.

All good guesses, but here is the answer. According to the legend, Miss Muffit was a girl whose stepdad was an entomologist. One of the spiders in his collection got out and there you have it. Of course this is still just a legend. No actual proof for sure...
