I have a dilemma... I last spoke to someone about my dream job a week ago. She said she would forward my reume to the hiring manager, and indeed she did, as I can check the status of my application online. My dilemma? It's been a week and I've heard nothing. Do I call to see what's happening? I don't want to seem like a bother. Man thinks I should wait until Monday. That's probably good advice, but it kills me. What if they give it to someone by then? What should I do?

Jess, if they hired someone else calling them won't help. If they will be hiring you, they will call. Check back on Monday just to let them know you are very interested. I know how much you want this and hope it comes through for you. Hugs.
When I applied at Fuddruckers all those years ago I got the job because I called back
On the other hand when I applied for a job at a boutique downtown I called back and I didn't get the job.
It's really up to you, if calling will make you feel better then do it
Update...
I called. I HAD to. It was driving me CRAZY! Plus, you guys who said you got the job BECAUSE you called back, well, I had to go for it.
The HR lady said the hiring manager has been really busy lately. She said she'd give her another heads up. I told her not to bother the lady, that I was just curious what was happening because I am really interested in this job. I told her that I fretted all day about whether to call or not, and I just want to know if the job's been given away so I can go on with my life. She said she'd call me if it was offered to someone else.
So, it makes me feel better that the lady has been busy, and that's why I haven't heard anything, rather than they reviewed my resume and decided they didn't like me, and I'm sitting here with my hopes up for nothing.
Continue to keep those fingers crossed for me!
See don't you feel better now that you called....good girl!
I'm glad you listened to your heart and the advice for calling. Because as soon as I read your dilemna I was going to say the say thing, although it was of course going to be too late by the time I get home. Beging a bug is never a good thing but a "status" check is. I work in Personnel and we have both buggy people and the ones who follow up because you know they really want a job - Although we remember them both, for different reasons, the one we want to hire is the one who we know genuinely cares and wants the job. If it is meant to be, it will work out but I hope it works out the way you want.
As someone who has applied to many, many jobs, and recently, I must say that it a good idea to call, but not to seem "buggy" as Nana put it. I think you did the right thing, and they will keep you in mind because of it. If you don't call, you are really just a piece of paper. If your piece of paper looks the same as everybody else who has applied, what else will make you stand out?
I will also advise you to be very friendly and real, as well as professional during your interview. Sometimes they choose someone just because they know the person's personality will fit in with the others who work there. When you are waiting to be interviewed, check out the people who work there, and try to fit in with them during the interview.
In short, your experience, (with a little help from your follow-up call), and your personality get you a job. Good luck!
